چکیده

We propose a light-weight protocol for authentication of low-power devices. Our construc-tion PUF-HB merges the positive qualities of two families of authentication functions. PUFrepresents physically unclonable functions and fulfills the purpose of providing low-cost tamper-resilient challenge-response authentication. On the other hand, the Hopper Blum (HB) functionprovides provable cryptographic strength against passive adversaries. By building on an earlierproof of the security of HB by Katz et al. [1], we rigorously prove the security of the proposedscheme against active adversaries. While the active adversary model does not include man-in-the-middle attacks, we show that a previously successful man-in-the-middle attack proposed forHB, does not carry to PUF-HB.

A tamper-proof and lightweight authentication scheme

We present a tamper-proof and lightweight challenge-response authentication scheme based on 2-level noisy Physically Unclonable Functions (PUF). We present a security reduction, which shows the scheme to be secure against passive attacks provided that it is hard to learn a threshold of halfspaces under the uniform distribution. Furthermore, we provide an extensive analysis of PUFs. In particula...

Secure and Efficient HB-CM Entity Authentication Protocol

The simple, computationally efficient LPN-based HB-like entity authentication protocols have attracted a great deal of attention in the past few years due to the broad application prospect in low-cost pervasive devices. At present, the most efficient protocol is HB, which is proven to resist the GRS attack under the conjecture that it is secure in the DET-model. In this paper, we introduce an i...

Using HB Family of Protocols for Privacy-Preserving Authentication of RFID Tags in a Population

In this paper, we propose an HB-like protocol for privacy-preserving authentication of RFID tags, whereby a tag can remain anonymous and untraceable to an adversary during the authentication process. Previous proposals of such protocols were based on PRF computations. Our protocol can instead be used on low-cost tags that may be incapable of computing standard PRFs. Moreover, since the underlyi...

Tree-based HB protocols for privacy-preserving authentication of RFID tags

An RFID reader must authenticate its designated tags in order to prevent tag forgery and counterfeiting. At the same time, due to privacy requirements of many applications, a tag should remain anonymous and untraceable to an adversary during the authentication process. In this paper, we propose an “HB-like” protocol for privacy-preserving authentication of RFID tags. Previous protocols for priv...

Linear HB ( NLHB ) Protocol Against Passive Attack

As a variant of the HB authentication protocol for RFID systems, which relies on the complexity of decoding linear codes against passive attacks, Madhavan et al. presented Non-Linear HB(NLHB) protocol. In contrast to HB, NLHB relies on the complexity of decoding a class of non-linear codes to render the passive attacks proposed against HB ineffective. Based on the fact that there has been no pa...
